Open Air- Putnam County, 21st Street in Nitro, WV

Many days I find myself walking by this view on my way to Ridenour Park. Today rather than finish my walk, I set up my easel on the little bridge and tried to paint the distant trees decorated by the morning light. I made the mistake, common for me, of trying to include too mush information. I know better. I could enumerate the various mistakes and failings, but I’m not. Anytime I have the opportunity to paint plein air, I feel like something was accomplished. For one, I took several good photos for references. Since leaving, I have had an idea about a larger painting using parts of this view, so my time was not wasted. Painting outdoors is never a waste.
