It’s taken me a year to make my way to Kanawha State Forest. Why so long, I do not know. A year is my length of residence in the mountain state. Little wonder that this place is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Built by the Civilian Conservation Corp (CCC) in 1937 after a purchase of 6,705 acres by WV Conservation Commission with an additional 2500 in 1942, the lush forested area is perfect for picnicking, hiking, camping, and biking. I found it perfect for plein air painting. Ellison Pond is home to great painting potential and a lot of trout, according to the sign.
