West Virginia’s Kanawha River, the state’s largest inland waterway, is a tributary of the Ohio River and is formed by the confluence of the Gauley and New Rivers near historic Glen Ferris. There the newly formed Kanawha forms a graceful bend and languidly widens, providing the deceptive impression of laziness if one were unaware of what was in the near distance, the powerful Kanawha Falls. This painting depicts the Kanawha directly behind Ferris Inn as it spreads and gathers momentum for falls below. Lets just say the river is just catching it’s breath. A great deal needs to happen to this one, but I hope to submit this along with others to an upcoming Tamarack exhibit Back to Our Routes.
