In an effort to improve figurative work, I’ve placed myself in a self-imposed boot-camp mode. I’m using photographs for now to practice painting portraits of any willing family member who will let me come near him or her with a camera. A live subject is much better, but no one is willing to devote the time. This sweet girl was on her way to a birthday party, and I loved her and the hair decor. ...made for an interesting detail. I’ve been told the human figure is no different than a landscape...just planes and slants. I’m trying to believe that.
