The home of Jean Nelson on 40th Street in Nitro is a perpetual source of plein air subject matter. I returned today for a second session and spent the morning. I keep seeing things to paint. The well shelter is covered with blackberry vines and flowers, and birdhouses hang from the rafters. In the morning light, the structure can't be ignored. It demands to be painted. The challenge here is a common "problem" that has to be confronted--that is the sheer amount of information requires an elimination of material that is not absolutely essential to the composition. I chose to eliminate background barn, birdhouses, and greenery and tried to focus on basic material. Thank you, Jean, for allowing me to hang out in your yard yet again. What a treat!
