The rose bud is a symbol for new life, whether the "youth" refers to physical life, love, or nature. In literature, the rose is a reoccurring symbol for youth, love, or beauty. Hence, roses are the quintessential gift for Valentine's Day. The birth of a baby is often acknowledged with a rose bud representing the new life. In nature the rose bud is the eternal symbol of a new life cycle. Above my desk, I have accumulated quotes that have been meaningful to me, and my favorite is related to maintaining youth. An interesting note is that a copy of this accompanied by portraits of Washington and Lincoln were above the desk of Douglas MacArthur at his Manila Headquarters as reported by famed war correspondent Col. Frederick Palmer.
How to Stay Young
Youth is not a time of life-it is a state of mind.
Nobody grows old by merely living a number of years; people grow old only by deserting their ideals. Years wrinkle the skin, but to give up enthusiasm wrinkles the soul. Worry, doubt, self-distrust, fear and despair-these are the long, long years that bow the head and turn the growing spirit back to dust.
Whether seventy or sixteen, there is in every being's heart the wonder, the sweet amazement of the stars and the starlike things and thoughts, the undaunted challenge of events, the unfailing childlike appetite for what next, and the joy and the game of life.
You are as young as your faith, as old as your doubt; as young as your self-confidence, as old as your fear; as young as your hope, as old as your despair.- Samuel Ullman
...and with that I need to add that this rose, this symbol of youth, is a 5x7 panel that can be purchased for $30.00 plus postage if applicable.
