We never get beyond the basics.

“All artists are willing to suffer for their work. But why are so few prepared to learn to draw?” Banksy

More times than I care to enumerate, I’ve heard/read about the importance of drawing. Drawing is basic, foundational to successful artwork of any kind. To practice sketching is crucial to painting. The more I practice sketching, the more improvement will be seen in my work. The sad truth, however, is that I don’t. I know what I need to do, and I have the supplies to do it…sad fact, I just don’t. I offer excuses like lack of time, fatigue, poor lighting, blah, blah, blah. Lately, my lack of discipline in this area has weighed on me, so during a quiet moment while working at Gallery 11, I retrieved from my purse the little sketchbook  (the one with clean pages) and tried to sketch a painting idea. I want to go on record and say that I will make a concentrated effort to practice sketching something daily, even if it’s just a smiley face.😋😄😢
