Cold weather rolls in the mountain state tonight, so today while the temperature was agreeable and the sun was warm, I drove to my sweet neighbor’s house and painted all morning. The morning sun does a lovely dance on the white sides of the house and the stately shade trees in the yard. Because I know the weather will put a stop to my plein air painting soon, I truly enjoyed myself. I was reminded of a quote from Truman Capote’s “A Christmas Memory.” The main character, a little boy (Buddy) has a special elderly friend who, after an afternoon of gathering pecans together, says “…As for me, I could leave the world with today in my eyes.” How wonderful to be able to feel that way about a day of one’s life, and any day that I paint outdoors, I do.
