My goal for the winter months is to paint outdoors one day a week, regardless of weather. The reason behind the project is to simply maintain the discipline of painting from life in the elements. Sometimes one attempts feats just to see if he/she CAN. Three weeks ago, my first session found me in downtown Poca. The weather was actually pleasant, and I felt pretty good. Maybe it won’t be so tough afterall. However, week #2 was a different story. The temps were low all week, and the best day was in the upper 30's. I came home disgusted with my work and frozen to the bone. Someone has said you have to be willing to be a bad artist before you can be a good artist. My work on that day was proof that I am more than willing and perfectly capable of being bad, so bad. I didnt download my work from that day because of cold, hard shame. Today, I have the nerve. Maybe it will encourage some struggling soul out there. Today's session resulted in improvement, possibly because I wasn't as cold.
The first image is from today, and the second is from week #2.
