Open Air Fayette County...Thurmond, WV

First time I ever saw the Thurmond Depot was through an Amtrak window. The  name “Thurmond” was in large letters on the building. Maybe the population sign I had just seen piqued my interest, the sign which read, “population 6.” That has to be a city council that rocks!  Since then, I have developed a love affair with Thurmond, WV. Considered a ghost town, the place was quite the hub of activity today. Besides yours truly, the crazy painter lady, three trains, railroad personnel, several flavors of “tourists,” park rangers, and 4-wheeler enthusiasts visited the fair city. To top it off, a photographer came by to take photos of goats brought in by park personnel to graze on the kudzu. (Think of them as city maintenance.) The goats were the ones I really wanted to see, but they kept a low profile. It was a great day. I attempted to depict the gorgeous light breaking on the distant mountain with the depot in the foreground while all of the above transpired. (The train would not stop for me.) This one has the bones of a larger piece.
