Stepping through a window of time...that’s what one does after following the winding road and crossing the one lane bridge suspended over the New River. The vacated buildings and railroad depot left standing at Thurmond, WV are reminders of a past in which the residents enjoyed prosperity amid a booming railroad industry, never suspecting the prospect of present-day Thurmond. Now the once stately buildings remain as a sobering reminder that life is constantly changing. That idea dominated my thoughts while painting this view. I wanted to capture the sense of isolation, the strange presence of memories that seemed to hang in the air on this gray morning. What an unforgettable place to paint. It’s the first time I’ve had to move my gear to make way for a train. For more NanPerryArt, see https://www.dailypaintworks.com/artists/Nan-Perry-5639/artwork.
