I once read an article about an artist who painted the same scene from his back deck every day for a year to document the change of seasons and the color shifts over an extended period. An unexpected result was IMPROVEMENT, a noticeable improvement from daily painting a familiar subject. I’m hoping my weekly exposure to this view of Ridenour Lake will likewise impact my painting. Im one of a group of artists who have a weekly paint out at this location. This is our third week and my third time to paint this specific view. Today I consciously took my time and tried to make each stroke count, taking care to mix correct color before touching it to the canvas. I sense improvement from previous weeks, but there is always more to learn. The lake is new each day, and although I’m learning her moods and color shifts, I’m not sure I will ever totally master this view, but I’m having fun trying.
