Open Air Putnam County

I met with a group of fellow painters at Ridenour Lake this morning; our goal was obviously to paint, but we wanted to observe social distancing guidelines as well. Artists are adept at solving problems; consequently, we managed quite handily. The picnic shelters at the park provide the perfect roomy location complete with views worthy of painting. Despite showers, we carried on. I attempted the view before me, and by the time I took this photo, rain had set in and had totally changed the lighting. Thus...the beauty of plein air painting. One is continually challenged by shifts of light and the dictates of the environment. Paul Cezanne expressed my sentiments so well, “I could paint for a hundred years, a thousand years, and still feel as I know nothing.”
