My favorite local walking place, Ridenour Park, was Monday’s painting destination. After painting there numerous times, one would think I would grow bored, but no. Always seeing something in a different light, I never tire of the place. I managed to get an early start and had the place to myself for an hour or more. With heavy rainfall of late, the little branch (I’ve learned the name of it is Armour Creek) was up and moving, and the darkened recess with its sun-flecked rocks were too good to pass up. The back light compounded the mysterious air of this spot; however, the greatest painting challenge with this location was the capturing the darkness. Plein air painting requires contending with the elements at times, and the mud was the hindrance. With the help of a plastic garbage bag, I managed to avoid getting mud on me and my gear. Plein air painting is always a pleasure, mud and all.
