This piece was one on display during Tamarack’s recent Critters and Hollers Exhibit. All participating artists were to paint animals or plants common toWest Virginia. Since relocating here, I’ve seen deer in yards, neighborhoods, roads, and interstates, so I decided deer would be a safe choice. Several participating artists thought as I, so there were other deer besides mine. Thus, these two came home with me. I try not to get in a work over pieces not selling. I decided years ago that I was going to paint. I can’t imagine NOT doing so. The sells will come when it’s time. I enjoyed capturing the spark in these two, their alertness to their environment. I began with a blue wash as an undercoat. This provided a coolness that lends itself to the wintry weather and the gray tones of the deer. These two will be with me until they find their home. Until then, I will be in good company.
