West Virginia has a number of covered bridges, one of which is this beauty at Pumpkin Park in Milton, WV. This bridge has not always been located here in the park, but over the Mud River nearby. The idea behind the relocation was the preservation of the bridge. A new road construction project would have required the destruction of the bridge. Some forward thinking people proposed the idea of moving the bridge here on the Pumpkin Park grounds. Although not in its original habitat, the bridge is enjoyed by a far greater number of people and preserved for future generations. Only foot traffic is now allowed on the bridge and is a treat to visit. My plan is to paint as many West Virginia covered bridges as possible...such a pleasurable project. Sometimes plein air painting present difficulties in covering terrain, locating a good vantage point, and gaining access, but this bridge was easy to locate and set-up was as simple as it gets. ...such a pleasure. I hope all the bridges present as little difficulties as this one.
