Open Air Putnam County John Amos Power Plant

I first visited Poca, WV 16 years ago when my daughter and her family moved into the area. This landmark I remember vividly on that first trip. The silhouette of the massive John Amos Power Plant  loomed over the horizon and commanded attention from all directions. It is definitely a distinguishing landmark for the surrounding area. For that reason, I thought I would try my hand at painting this place. The challenge for me was the value of the stacks, far darker than I first supposed. I also struggled with distinguishing the steam from the sky, which today was clear  pale blue. If I ever attempt to paint this again, I think I will opt for a darker sky, perhaps stormy or maybe a late evening atmosphere.  I tried to make quick work of this one. The temperature was an extremely humid 101, but I would repeat the afternoon in a heartbeat despite the heat.
