It never fails; I think I’m finished, take a photo of the finished product, proceed to download the photo, and see a detail that needs adjusting. Without fail, the camera manages to pick up details unnoticed by the naked eye. One of my ongoing tendencies in my work is failure to maintain straight lines. My head must be at a permanent slant. I do it EVERY TIME! In this painting, the chimney is set at a slant, just enough to notice, just enough to drive me crazy. That means I’ll have to “relick my calf,” as my mother always said. I never understood the context of that expression, only that something needed a redo. I should have asked her about the calf.
