The familiar takes on an entirely different perspective when trying to capture it on canvas. My painting plans for today were for a local park, but ended with my painting in the front yard, my point of departure. For some reason, (and this is rare), I failed to engage with a scene/subject at the park. I wasn't particularly motivated to paint anything I saw. When I returned home, I decided that I would paint SOMETHING before the day was done. Lesson learned: Do not depend on inspiration, but only the exercise of showing up at the canvas on a daily basis. More times that not, after beginning, inspiration or a feeling will follow or least a sense of accomplishment in achieving the primary goal. Either way, it's a win-win.
