Gestural Sketching

The benefits of sketching routinely are numerous for anyone, but especially for those who are interested in pursuing artistic goals. One sketching activity designed to improve drawing skills by sharpening hand and eye coordination and building speed is  gestural drawing, the capturing of basic posture/movement of the human figure. This requires a quick sketch of a moving figure. Today while watching my granddaughter Grace play tennis, I (with sketchbook in hand) focused on capturing some of the gestures on the court. I managed to capture these while trying to focus on the match, not easy. I didn't last two long because I couldn't keep up with the game and focus on sketching at the same time, but I did manage these.
