The hushed stillness of the barn's interior smelled of old hay and the pungent manure smell of cows. Minute particles of straw floated in the streaming rays of sunlight. I snapped a photo looking out the barn's entrance capturing the stark pattern of light and shadow. Having every intention of returning to paint on location before cold weather set in, I planned a return trip but got side-tracked. Sometimes, one is forced to used resources on hand. There is no substitute for painting plein air, but I referred to my photo today and tried to capture what I felt and saw on that warm autumn day.
