Choosing this view of this structure to paint was a case of "biting off more than I could chew," and I struggled the entire day. Painting involves solving problems, and the problems with this one almost sent me home defeated. All structures have perspective issues, but the view from down in front of this structure looking up at an angle multiplied the perspective problems. The house is on a steep hill, and I was forced to set up downhill in order to get a full view. More time was spent sketching than painting...kept starting over. The day was overcast, so the contrast between light and dark was minimal. The values were extremely difficult for me to mix. To make a long story short--I struggled both in the drawing and with color. I kept slapping the canvas, and miraculously, the painting may be redeemable. However, I will give this one a rest, and one for the artist as well.
