Open Air in Clay County-Knowles Farm

"Plein Air" is a French term that 16th century artists coined in referring to painting outdoors. The term literally means "open air," and was promoted as a method that improved an artist's ability to capture the atmospheric mood and color of a setting. In addition to improving artistic execution, painting outdoors is simply a pleasurable experience. In addition to studio time, I try to paint as much as possible outdoors when weather permits. Thus, I am continually scouting for promising painting locations. I routinely ask for permission to paint on private property, and people are usually gracious in allowing my wanderings on their grounds.  Rarely, do I have anyone volunteer their home simply because it's not something most people think about. However, I recently received an invitation from Bethany Owens to visit and paint around her lovely home, and that is exactly what I did today. Never while Bethany's English teacher, did I ever imagine there would be a future day in which I would be painting in her beautiful backyard. What interesting turns life takes. Thank you, Bethany, for your gracious invitation. I love painting on Abbey Lane, and I love you.
