After finishing Red Barn #1, I needed to get out of the morning sun which was getting a little too bright. Painting outdoors in direct sunlight is not a good idea, for distinguishing shifts in color's value gets difficult in direct light. Often the artists can find himself/herself trying to paint standing in his/her own shadow...not good either. The remedy you ask? ...an umbrella, of course. I DID have one, but that is another blog. No umbrella for me at the moment. My solution was to simply move to the cool, shaded hallway of Red Barn #1, turn and face the opposite direction, and paint the barns behind me, which I have dubbed Red Barn #2. Obviously, there are actually three, but I painted them as one. For this, I had assistance: the resident beagles. They have run of the place and have keen eyes for the scenery. They have definite opinions, and we managed to work well together. \
