I'm working on a collection of paintings which I call On the Streets Where We Live. My goal is simply to capture the place we call home on canvas. Most of the scenes will be first painted plein air when possible, so when you see the weirdo standing behind an easel on the streets of Ashland, just know that I'm harmless. One of the many benefits of drawing/painting the scene plein air is that one is forced to examine, to really look at the subject rather than depend the on the eyes of familiarity. This is a view (which I hope you readily recognize) of the intersection Hwy 77 and Hwy 9 South. Mapco Service is to the left. However, this scene is an exceptional. Something is being added that isn't there at present, but HAS been. I have heard that there are old photos of this Bull Durham mural in circulation which I would love to see. Until then, I am referring to stock photos of refurbished murals online. A tremendous amount of work needs to happen here, but I am excited. Feel free to make suggestions. After all, these are the streets where YOU live.
