Small Town, USA. Hwy 9 North/Hwy 77 Intersection in Ashland

This view  of Hwy 9 North leading to "the square" is one that a friend and I always observed as we walked to the Ashland Theater on Saturday afternoon. For a quarter, we could watch a movie, the same one, over and over all afternoon. We weren't discriminating; whatever was playing we watched.
Our mothers never asked, "What will you be viewing, dear children?" or "What is the rating?  We are concerned about your exposure to harmful material." I guess they were just glad to get us out of the house. Parenting just came easier then. The view to your right was the home of Ogles-Thomas Chevrolet where my dad bought "the car," always a Chevrolet and always from Alton Ogles. Now, NAPA Auto Parts is located in the old showroom, so I guess one could say the vehicle business still rules here. I was on a painting jag the afternoon this was painted, and this was my third stop. In looking at this photo, I see the perspective of buildings and entrances is badly skewed, so I had grown careless and slap-happy. THAT will demand my attention later. Perspective is of primary importance in painting, as it is in living. This study will need a lot of correction, but that's OK.   It was a most excellent day.
