Small Town, USA Corner of Hwy 77/9 South and Hwy 77 North

The corner has changed over the years. Where Mapco is now located, a block of store fronts stood, one of which was the local pool hall. Runyan's Hardware was directly across the intersection. In the building now occupied by Monte Alban Restaurant was Riley's Department Store, which actually was a department store. There was a time when shoes and dress clothing could be purchased in four to six different businesses on the square. Two grocers were located on the square, and John T. Green's grocery was directly behind the law office of D.A. Jeff Willis. In addition, the Food Town was located in Clay County Cleaners building. As a junior high student, I worked in Levis Walker's Dry Goods on Saturday, which was an amazingly busy shopping day.  I can remember Levis going to the bank (located on the square) multiple times, for we would run low on change/cash. I'm sure others could add their memories of changes that have occurred.
