The House on 4th Street

I pass this house on 4th Street daily either as pedestrian or motorist, and I always think of my dad's words. "That house right there, at one time, was one of the prettiest homes in Ashland." My dad passed away years ago, but even then the house was vacant and in disrepair. I remember being mystified by his words. Really, Daddy????? Why that house?? Now, it's condemned by the city, and the roof is literally falling in. I wish I had questioned my dad about the house, but in my youthful rashness, I just passed off his words. I never imagined there would be a day when I would be standing across the street from it and trying to paint it, immortalize it on canvas. I wish I had quizzed him about it. I could blog here about that topic: my omission in asking questions of those who are now absent from my life. I didn't see the importance at the time, and I missed a golden opportunity. My dad would have absolutely loved sharing the information. Yes, there is a blog topic there, but let's get back to the house. I can't ask my parents, but I can ask those who are reading.WHO owned it? WHO lived in it? WHY has been vacated for so long? WHAT is the story here? It has stood far longer than I ever thought possible, but its future is inevitable. Does anyone know anything about this place?
