Plein Air in Clay County 1500 Peach Orchard Road

One of the most beautiful views in the Ashland area is at the end of Peach Orchard Road. Glenda Willard permitted me to hang out in her yard yesterday morning, and I was once again reminded of some good things that we have in Clay County,  namely the people and our sense of place. Because our area is a small population and somewhat insulated, many of us have a deep sense of roots. We are attached to the land and its history, the story. Some of my family (uncle and grandparents) lived at this site for a brief time, and I remember visiting an earlier version of the home, never once imagining that I would one day return to paint views from the front yard. It was while living here that my grandfather would suffer a massive heart attack from which he never survived. My grandparents loved this view, and often remarked how much they enjoyed living here. I can see why. The view you see is of Ashland area with the water towers peeking through the distance. The courthouse is unfortunately hidden behind the water tower from this perspective. Wellborn Cabinets is to the right. I plan to return to this place to paint again (if I'm allowed back on the property). Thank you, Glenda.
