Artist Eric Sloan's words about the nature of art resonates with truth. "The painting an artist chooses to make is often less a design or a picture than it is a piece of her life or a longing in his own heart. That is what makes it a work of art for the beholder." Commissions which I paint are always images that involve memories, something precious to the viewer's history. The paintings that I have sold most often at art festivals are those that strike cords of memory for viewers. In deciding what to paint, I too am drawn to images that pique personal memories. The image painted here is one such painting. I can remember wearing shoes such as this while in high school, and I couldn't resist painting them. Neither am I the only one with the memory, for Rah Rahs sold quickly, and the purchaser commissioned another for a friend. A treasured remembrance is well worth its price.
