This Watts pitcher, was a gift from a family member, and has held vigil on my pie safe for a number of years. Considered one of very few valuable possessions in my home, the worth of the pitcher, comparatively speaking, is small. Countless other antique goods would bring a higher price. The Watts Pottery Company was an Ohio-based company that operated from 1922 to the mid-1950's when destroyed by fire. I have come to learn that this apple design is only one of several distinctive Watts designs that are extremely popular in the current antique market, so much so that their popularity has given rise to an insidious spin-off market, the Watts "knock-off." The serious shopper needs to be aware of these wily impostors. My pitcher however, is the real deal, a serious Watts, but even if it were not, I would still treasure it. The one who gifted me with the pitcher gives it worth. As someone has wisely said, "Moments, rather than possessions, are the true treasures of life." This pitcher is of great worth to me simply because of the memories attached to it, the countless moments of joy that are associated with the giver.
