On the Streets Where You Live

I've been making an effort to paint outdoors as much as possible while the weather permits. Until this day, my sites of choice have been static scenes, locations that included stationary objects. People are always present, but they usually ignore me or are very pleasant. For the most part, I am oblivious to them. I knew that painting a street scene would require my setting aside self-consciousness and simply paint.   I set up my easel by the post office and began. Plein air painting in isolated areas is one thing, but on the intersection of a busy street is quite  different.  I never realized the post office was such a hub of activity. For the first 30 minutes, I felt like an absolute idiot, but eventually, I grew more comfortable and actually had fun. This scene needs some work, powerlines, for instance, but I was just pleased that I tried it.
