I could go on about what is wrong here; glaring mistakes are obvious. However, I'm trying to be patient with myself these days, allowing space to learn and simply enjoy the process. Rather than belabor the mistakes, I will speak of the positives. I like the subject matter. It's in my front yard; naturally, I am partial. Playful, whimsical subjects always appeal to me. We need to smile more. The play of light on the ivy was distinct against the dark wooded area, which accentuates the old, white bike. My rendering does not make that too clear; you'll have to trust me on that one. I LIKE this subject; I'm not as happy with this study as some others, but I do like this subject matter. ...enough to try to paint a serious version in larger format. First...maybe another round of painting plein air. Anytime, I paint outside, time is not wasted.
