Today's post is from the archives. This painting may hold the record to this day, as the quickest seller in my painting career. I was scheduled for an art show somewhere, and in an effort to take a decent inventory, this was painted at the last hour. I tend not to do that because of the stress of not being sure paintings are good dry and safe for transporting. Oil paint needs to "set up" for a thorough dry. Some authorities recommend six months, which I did not have. I'm not sure that I was even particularly fond of it, but first thing that morning during the festival, a man walked up and bought it and another painting. I was jazzed, to say the least. He said little despite my nervous chatter. I always am interested in WHY people buy what they do. What makes us like a painting enough to buy it? I got nothing from him in the way of reflection, associations, or profound thoughts. I guess he was just a simple guy who liked landscapes, and I would never argue with that. Sometimes we just need to buy something "purty."
