Tack Room 14x16 $150.00

The art term "chiaroscuro" (not sure how to pronounce) is used to refer to an extreme contrast between low and high lighting to create focus on distinct areas. The technique was perfected during the Renaissance and is used in all facets of today's arts: movie industry, stage, and the visual arts.  Emphasis is pronounced in a painting when this technique is used. Tack Room is a case in point. The eye naturally falls on the saddle pommel, horn, and front areas. The bridle bit and straps demand an audience as well. The back part of saddle simply disappears in darkness. This technique was a hallmark of Rembrandt's work, always encased in darkness with spotlights of emphasis. It is this technique that gives the saddle image the "leathery look." This painting is not for everyone; not everyone loves all things related to the horse, but Tack Room is one of my personal favorites. When entering an art show and asked to send examples of my work, this usually is on the list, for I know the panel will recognize this technique.
